A growing number of European consumers are reducing their intake of meat products. In 2015, 34% of Germans said that they had reduced their meat intake over the last 2 years. In the US, 38% of consumers are eating meatless meals once a week or more.

To cater to these consumers, the industry is creating alternatives. In fact, from 2011 to 2015, the number of new meat substitute product launches increased by +24% per year. Product developers are rising to the challenge of creating products that replicate the characteristics and nutritional value of meat.
